IT Giddy with GLITTER Once Again
Seattle Central’s 4th annual GLITTER (Get Launched In Technology Through Education and Resources) date is set to happen this May 29th from 9:30 AM – 1:00 PM. The college will host 80 local high school girls in an inspirational conference encouraging them to seek higher education and more specifically, training in Information Technology as an integral part of their future career choices.
Lisa Sandoval, Program Manager of IT Programs, in partnership with Cathi Rodgeveller, Director at IGNITE (Inspire Girls Now Through Technology Evolution), will advise girls of the prevalence of IT in industries and encourage IT training through 3 interactive sessions.
Industry representatives from a variety of non-IT companies, such as Starbucks, Nordstroms, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center will discuss the value of their IT education.
A second session with outreach coordinator Gina Nakamura will give step-by-step instructions of how to apply to the college and how to fill out financial aid applications
A third session focuses on the various aspects of IT, including basic hardware and Photoshop essentials.
The most popular part of the day will be lunch with sweeping views of the city, in the beautiful 5th floor Photo studio and listening to a keynote speaker.
The annual GLITTER event is supported by cash and in-kind donations through Seattle Central Foundation Office and we are in critical need for your help. Donations to the Seattle Central Foundation account have dramatically dropped due to the economic downturn and fallout of many of our local IT companies who’ve donated in the past. Please consider a small donation of $25 or more to Seattle Central Foundation on behalf of GLITTER to support this very important cause.
We are also looking for student volunteers to assist with the event – please contact Lisa Sandoval to offer your assistance!
