Course Description:

This course gives an overview of the basic principles and practices of professional web site design and development using the open-source technology of WordPress.

Course Goals:

The students will design and develop a website for a small to medium sized business or their own portfolio site while focusing on the development principles associated with the use of WordPress.

This class will provide the student with a case study and website portfolio piece to present to potential employers.

Course Outcomes:

Upon successful completion of ITC298, the student will be able to:

  • Install and set-up WordPress to a server
  • Add and manage content through WordPress
  • Use, customize and create WordPresss themes
  • Use and customize WordPress functions and loops
  • Install and utilize WordPress plugins and widgets
  • Have a WordPress website of their very own to impress their friends

Your final grade will be a culmination of your Class Assignments:

  • Assignments will create an overall Class Project to be presented at the end of the quarter
  • Assignments require critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Assignments will be “assigned” each week according to the class schedule
  • Assignments will be “due” according the assignment pages
  • Students are responsible for assignment information on assignment pages
  • Students are also responsible for assignment information given in class
  • Assignments will be marked down 25% for every week they are late
